I’m back!

Hello! I used to blog over at S&S on Blogger, which I started 7 years ago. At some point I lost interest and time to blog regularly; I was reading a lot but couldn’t find the motivation to write proper reviews of anything, and I felt like I didn’t have anything new and interesting to contribute to the bookish community. I’m sure we’ve all experienced that feeling of shouting into a void: is anyone even listening? I went into blogging slumps where I’d post a few times per year 2017-2018 but I never really found the energy or motivation to keep at it.

Fast forward to 2020, when we are all stuck in quarantine and the cosmic screenwriter has decided to turn the real world into every sci-fi dystopia all at once! Even though it’s been a tough few months in terms of mental health, personal things, and not being nearly as productive as I wanted to be, it seems like now is a good time to re-stake my claim on a corner of the internet for a fresh start. Maybe I still won’t have a large following, but at least I have to confidence now to say that my ideas are worth sharing, no matter how few people are listening.

I’m now a PhD student, so I don’t read nearly as much as I used to, but the books I’m enjoying are the ones by BIPOC and queer authors. I don’t think I ever made a conscious decision to read more books by these communities, I just sort of lost interest in the typical fantasy novels written by white men and have found much more fulfilling experiences in reading books by other voices. I hope to use this platform to recommend books and boost those authors, as it has become abundantly clear over the past month how biased the publishing industry still is.

My other loves are food and dance, so I might occasionally post about those things on the blog, especially if I bake something inspired by the books I read. Welcome to my corner of the internet, and I hope you will stick around 🙂
