I’ve never done ARC August (hosted by Read. Sleep. Repeat) even though I’ve seen it around over the years, mostly because I’m such a small fish in the book community and I only have 1-2 ARCs to read (if any) in a given month. Since I just refreshed the blog and have found some new energy for reading and reviewing books, I think ARC August could be a fun way to make sure I stay on top of the few ARCs I have been approved for on NetGalley.
Netgalley TBR/Digital ARCs
- The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab: This is my most anticipated book of the year by one of my favorite authors. I feel so lucky to have been approved, and I can’t wait to read this!
- Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi: I really enjoyed how The Gilded Wolves discussed the far-reaching effects of colonialism and delved into the complexities of our identities and sense of belonging. The plot was fun, but those aspects were what set this series apart from other heist stories or even fantasy novels in general for me. I am looking forward to see more of that, hopefully, in book 2!
- The Echo Wife by Sara Gailey: I really enjoyed Magic for Liars last year. It was so unique and dark with a very broken main character who somehow manages to solve a supernatural mystery without having magic of her own. The Echo Wife sounds like a similar mix of genres I enjoy, and the tagline describing it as Killing Eve meets Westworld meets Big Little Lies has me excited, I love all of these shows!
Physical ARCs
- Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar: Shveta was kind enough to host a giveaway for her newsletter followers and somehow the stars aligned (pun intended haha) and I won a copy of this book! I’m still waiting for it in the mail, but hopefully I’ll get my hands on it soon. I’m so excited to read this own-voices novel about a South Asian girl (it me!) in a world with mythology inspired by the stars (I’m named after one) and Hindu mythology (stories I grew up devouring as a child). It’s almost like this book was written for me!!
Silvered Serpents and Star Daughter are both on my list! Good luck ❤

I started it this weekend! It’s taking me a bit to get into it but I think it’s getting better now, the writing style was really distracting me at first. I usually love V’s books but this one is extra dreamlike and has A LOT of stylistic prose which is lovely in small doses but hard to read when it’s every paragraph

Mmmm yeah. That’s interesting! Sometimes I have trouble getting into books as well but end up loving them. Fingers crossed!

I’ve been meaning to get to my backlist ARCs! Maybe I should participate in ARC August as well, and read a few of the books I’ve said I’ll read for several months now~

I’ve never done it before and I don’t have enough ARCs to only read ARCs all month but it seems like a pretty chill event! I know a lot of people are using it to get through backlist ARCs 😊
